

It’s at this point that the game itself needs to pick up the slack and start throwing new and interesting challenges your way, and unfortunately Victor Vran never really does that.Īfter the first few hours of play, Victor Vran doesn’t mix things up at all. Eventually however, you’ll settle on a particular build, making only minor tweaks here or there when you pick up a powerful new weapon or Destiny card.

Fighting in Victor Vran is a lot of fun, especially early on as you encounter different types of monsters and you’re still experimenting with what works for your play style and what doesn’t. While the inventory system and customisation is incredibly deep, the combat really isn’t. If you feel like you need to tweak your build, or come at a particular encounter from an entirely new direction, you can absolutely do that whenever you like. There’s no need to wait until you’re back at the hub or in relative safety, which is a massive boon for Victor Vran. Pressing select will bring up the inventory menu and allow you to change your equipped weapons, consumables, cards, powers…anything. The best part about the inventory and loot system is that you can swap any of these things around on the fly, any time you fancy, and that includes even if you’re right in the middle of combat. I had this combined with two Destiny cards that upped my damage when enemies were both above and below a certain percentage of health. The scythe, my personal favourite weapon, is an excellent tool for massive crowds of enemies, with a wide attacking arc and special attacks geared towards killing multiple baddies at once. These are all different pieces of the jigsaw that combine to create a play style that can be unique and tailored to how you want to play the game. The same goes for consumables, outfits and Destiny cards, which are powerful passive abilities that occupy special slots in your inventory, and grant you stuff like extra health, damage and a variety of cool abilities. Like with weapons, these powers can dramatically alter your play style by giving you access to a variety of different offensive and defensive capabilities. You get two weapons slots and you’ll spend a lot of time experimenting with different combinations for maximum synergy.Īttacking enemies builds a meter called Overdrive, and you’ll use this to fuel your demon powers, which again you’ll be collecting on your travels through Zagoravia.

Weapons come with a standard attack, plus two unique special attacks tied to cooldown timers. Each weapon has a dramatic effect on the way you approach combat, depending on what you have equipped. For starters there are a whole bunch of different types of weapons, ranging from swords and hammers to scythes, lightning guns, shotguns and much more. There’s a lot of different types of customisation available to you in Victor Vran too. You tailor your play style by choosing your weapons and abilities on the fly, through the equipment and special skills you’ll collect on your journey throughout the game. Unlike other aRPG’s of its class, Victor Vran doesn’t ask you to select a class. The variety and depth of the character customisation options is Victor Vran’s biggest strength. That’s what drives this game the collection of better, more powerful weapons, costumes, consumables and more. A loot crawling RPG in a similar vein to Diablo III or The Adventures of Van Helsing, Victor Vran tasks you with delving into the streets, dungeons, caves and more of Zagoravia ostensibly to stop a demon invasion, but really asks you to carve a path through hundreds upon hundreds of demons for the phat loot your soul craves. Victor Vran is an isometric action-RPG in which you play the titular character, a demon hunter who arrives in the city of Zagoravia to try and help its inhabitants fight off a demon infestation of unknown origins.
